To kids camping is fun as long as you let them have some freedom, kids will have a great time doing most anything you let them, so try to relax and let them play( who knows maybe they will go to bed early!)I am going to separate this page into driving activities and campground activities so you can work through the section that your most interested in.

I am not big on the whole video game thing,however with longer trips these may become necessary to keep your sanity! I would suggest maybe getting the kids a new game for the trip so they do not get bored to quickly, most kids would spend the whole day playing their psp,Nintendo DS ect. so make sure you set clear time limits.

Before you hit the road some prep work will pay off, I have started researching good resources for the busy parent one gem I have found is uptoten,com they offer both free and premium based services. I found some cool coloring pages you can print and take for the road trip you should also try this childs fun website they offer printable coloring pages and games,another place to try is coloring book fun they offer some great pages with Disney and offer well known characters no matter where you go using these resources can help save some hassles when it comes time to keep the kids busy on the road trip. you might want to also consider purchasing some educational toys for the trip so the kids can learn while they are having some fun camping fun.

A traveling we will go

We are going to now look at traveling activities so you do not have to hear those wonderful words "Are we there yet?" I know we have all heard that so I am trying to help you not have to hear it again.

Depending on how far you intend on traveling you may want to use varying methods of keeping the kids having fun in the truck, for instance if your going to travel seven plus hours a portable Dvd player will pay for it self in one trip.

I have mentioned on several other pages the classic car games are still effective Punch buggy,License plate game,Counting Blue Cars I am sure you know plenty more the point here is as long as your creative you will do fine.

My kids love to read so packing some books is a good idea to keep them entertained and this usually buys you some peaceful time in the truck.


I have personally traveled on trips that the driver(s) did not stop often enough for rest room breaks or just time to get out and walk so please take this into consideration when you are planning your trip the kids will be happier if you do not make them wait hours for a bathroom break I have been there and its not fun!

Good Planning saves the Day

You must be asking why did I mention this well for a good reason actually you have to take everything into consideration when your trying to keep the kids happy en-route to your campground of choice and this includes keeping the basic needs of food,drink and bathroom breaks in mind so plan ahead and it will reward time and time again.

One great camping fun activity you can include the whole family in (its real fun) is having each person tell a part of a story each person can make the story go in any direction and the next person has to take over from where they leave off, sounds easy enough just remember kids have great imaginations.

When you take Kids camping you are opening up a whole new world for them so please plan a trip they will remember and create a respect for nature as a result of.

Campground Fun

Let us now look at how to keep everyone happy once the gear is safely in place and everyone could use a laugh or just some down time.

The sky is the limit here boardgames,hiking,walks,water balloon fights,card games,roasting marsh mellows and reading this is just a good list of the activities my family uses when camping you really can mix it up whatever way your family likes.

I can suggest some fun card games Uno,Skip Bo and Old Maid we play these and others for hours on end they are a good way to pass time in the shade during the real hot hours in the middle of the day.





Kids love to play outdoors and most kids enjoy nature so a good bike ride or hike can relax everyone and let you see some interesting landscape in the process.

When you are at the campground You can plan camping activities to surprise the kids like letting them help cook a meal for instance this is a great confidence booster and as long as you pay attention perfectly safe.

The ever popular day trip is a good way to create kids camping fun and lets face it if you are in a different part of the country you might as well look around.
