Make your camping kitchen do more than cook

Imagine you have prepared a fantastic meal for your family your camping kitchen is at the ready to begin cooking, you turn the knob on your stove and nothing happens! Oh no your out of propane. This may seem far fetched how ever it is not, how many grills or stoves have you seen with a propane fuel gauge? To be truly effective every detail must be looked at.

The details are the key to a awesome camping kitchen I recommend you use common sense and bring only as much as you need, you can make it fit your camping style just do not go overboard.

One of the most useful items to have is a Coleman camping stove you will find a variety of options here single, double and even triple burners manual or electronic ignition and how many Btu's it can produce. These details are great, how ever what you really need to look for is:

  • Ease of Set up
  • Ease of Break down
  • Storage options
  • Fuel Availability
  • Ease of cleaning/repair

Cleaning your stove after every meal will help it last for years to come,Stoves come in various sizes remember just like any camping equipment buying to much always turns into a hassle.

Once you have the stove decision made the next logical step is pots and pans, you can go two directions here either buy pots made for camping or use regular household models.

Please keep in mind that under the more demanding conditions of camping regular pots and pans will wear out quicker than usual.

The items you see here are my families camping kitchen equipment we have been using for the last five years, we use the camping stove pictured along with a propane table top grill.

Some advice we can offer here is think ahead and make sure you have the right equipment to prepare the food the way you have planned it out.

Some other items that may be forgotten are oven mitts, bowl or basin to wash dishes in,sponge, egg carrier and table clothes with hold downs (rocks work great).

Personally the best method to ensure you have everything is to pack early so your not rushing and you will be fine.

I have found that most campgrounds we have stayed at require you to walk for water to cook with so a folding water carrier is a worthy investment. When you are finished with your camping trip I would recommend that you ensure all the gear is clean and dry before you store it away. Now that you have an idea of what the kitchen will be, I suggest you check out our section on Camping equipment >>>
