First Aid

Welcome to the First Aid section of our website.Let me first start by suggesting a first aid kit, you can buy these pre-made or assembly your own.

Important update

Swine flu information

The news has been filled with the spread of the "swine Flu" and honestly there is no fear for you or your family as long as you wash your hands, clean up your campsite and use hand sanitizer throughout the day.

Now is a great time to discuss what you should have in your kit....

Note You know your family the best so the following is only a suggestion, remember it is better to be over prepared than not.

The kit may include,

  • Band aids of varying sizes
  • gauge,
  • tape
  • ice pack(s)
  • antiseptic wipes
  • antiseptic cream
  • medical scissors
  • bee sting kit
  • kits for poison ivy oak and sumac,
  • sunburn treatment
  • calamine lotion
  • ibuprofen
  • Ace bandage
  • aspirin or other pain reliever (check for allergies first)

Also consider:

  • Snake or Scorpion bite kit
  • Small blanket
  • Flash light
  • Splint
  • Pre paid cell phone or calling card for emergency phone calls

A store bought kit usually works....

Personally I think your most productive solution is purchase a pre-made kit and add any item you feel necessary.

Once you have a kit you’re comfortable with you the first step to safer camping is complete.

You Make the right decisions

The subject of first aid is not a simple matter therefore we only intend to cover the basics.

You may also find that a common problem children have is dehydration and heat related illness.

Make sure you keep a careful eye on how much time they are in the sun and plan to have lots of water to keep them healthy.

Beware the Trouble of Poison Sumac

Educating younger explorers on poison ivy,oak and sumac could very well safe everyone a painful problem, if you should have such a problem the best product I found to treat it is Tenchu Oak and ivy combined with their clear calomine lotion it greatly reduces the pain and duration of your infection.

Please visit our new page on Poison Sumac Care this is a serious problem that some education will greatly help your family out, please try to avoid letting your kids play in scrub brush as this seems to be a place poison ivy,oak and sumac seems to thrive.
First Aid is a broad section try our FAQ section for some general answers to questions that may not be health related.

A warm feeling and Camp Fire Stories

A worthy mention here is one of the most common injuries camping is burns from camp fires with this in mind teach the younger campers to respect the camp fire and you won't have to deal a painful problem on your next trip.

I hope you have a safe trip!
