Eco friendly camping
Camping is quickly becoming a very popular vacation idea for many families, with the increase of people comes a risk to the very environment they seek to enjoy.
We all must become more aware how our presence is affecting nature, that is why I decided to explore with you how to camp in an eco friendly way. There are various ways the average family can be more Eco friendly and some will even save you some of the green everyone loves money!
The whole point of camping is to enjoy nature and relax if we are not careful we could end up ruining our parks and forests, more and more new campers arrive at camp grounds each year. They are either unaware or simply do not care about some the most important rules of camping, hiking, canoeing or back packing.
Rules for natureList of do’s
- Leave nothing but foot prints
- Use only wood already on the ground for fires
- Observe quite time Rules
- Leave the campsite cleaner than you found it
- Pitch your tent only in an cleared area
- Kids always travel in pairs
- Always dispose of your trash only in approved dumpsters/trash barrels
List of do not’s
- Never leave a fire unattended
- Never cut down a tree for fire wood
- Never cut your your trail into the woods(stay on marked paths)
- Use soap near a lake or river
- Never never Flick lit cigarette Butts into the woods
- Don't throw trash on the ground
I thought that giving some clear examples of both helpful and damaging practices would set a good tone for people unfamiliar with the outdoors, Now lets jump into section one where we will look at some Ecofriendly ways to equip your family for your next trip into the greatoutdoors.
Even the way you prepare food can have an impact on nature, try not to pour grease onto the ground, throw out the left overs never feed the wild life and remember any food left out will attract some mid night raiders!
On our last camping trip even with a spotless campsite we were hit three nights by raccoons, make sure you tie up your food totes. We recommend strong bungee cords for this task.

Kids love nature so help teach them to protect it so their kids can enjoy it too. Simply by not littering, using recycled materials and being careful of how you dispose of chemicals can you greatly help preserve nature for every one. Believe it or not even your tent can be greener, taking measures to prolong the life of your tent or gear in general saves materials. when you invest in the right gear your really helping mother nature in a way since you won't be adding trash to the dumps and wasting more raw materials to produce more gear.
Eco friendly gear
Virtually every item you can use while camping can be of a "green Nature" simply by investing in gear made from recycled materials you can save money and the Planet. I recommend investing in the areas you can make a strong change first like your cookware.
When you use cheap cookware you end up buying it several times over and will more than likely spend more than buying a good cast iron set once. This is true of pretty much any gear you invest in, "buy it right once" this was my grandfathers moto and I think he was right on the money.
Certainly your kitchen can get in the act at home as well as in the woods, you can always buy gear for both home and vacation use this is a great way to save resources. The whole point of this page is to help people realize that every one can make a difference and save the planet.
Fun ways to help be green A great way to teach respect for nature is to challenge the whole family to collect and recycle plastic, card board and glass all vacation, at the end of the trip tally up how much each member and the whole family saved and give out a prize.
You may be surprised on how much you can collect in a five day vacation, this is something you can easily do year round at home as well.
This is only the beginning for this page as I have more time to research more ideas I will add them for you, Until then if you have an idea or suggestion please use the form below.
