Around The Campfire, Issue #9 New ideas! August 31, 2008 |
New ideas for Famiily CampingThe Official newsletterfrom www.family-fun-camping.comIssue # 8
August 2008In this issue
Life is boring if you do the same old thing all the time, I decided that this months issue will be focused on fresh ideas with thinking outside of the box. Camping is all about having fun so it has to remain interesting for the whole family. Take a minute and think about this, do you unpack, set up and camp the same every year? well stop now!!! you need to switch things up some,so just relax and dig in in for some freshly made ideas with a side of wacky thoughts. Please feel free to visit the site and use the contact us forms located on many pages to make a suggestion or comment.
Section I: Fresh ideasI wanted to take a different direction with this months issue, I looked around the web and found most camping websites are offering very similar information and ideas for visitors. When I compared notes overall the ways people are suggesting keeping your family entertained were ideas like cloud watching, board games, card games, nature walks and so on. Personally I find nothing wrong with this how ever some fresh ideas certainly couldn’t hurt. The main reason my family camps are for the time together and enjoying the beauty that nature has to offer. The first fresh idea I would like to present to you is changing the time of year you camp, even if you go to the same place I guarantee something will be new or different because it is colder, the foliage changed or a new activity is available. I have visited several of the state camp grounds local to me and they Defiantly had a different feel during the various times of year, just the simple act of sitting around the campfire can chance from an activity to a necessity because of the temperature. Planning your next trip around a holiday such as the Fourth of July, Halloween ECT can even open up opportunities to experience local festivals and seasonal fairs. I can recommend staying local and experiencing some of what your home state has to offer, all too often we over look the historical attractions nearby. When you’re interested in finding local places to visit try using you states home page, you can look up some destinations that are interesting to the whole family. In the last issue I touched on the idea of group camping, this is a fun way to switch things up and enjoy some much needed change. One thing I am sure you will discover is every one has their own personal style; this is nice since you may learn new ways to make your camping experience easier. Group camping allows you to catch up family and friends you usually do not have time to be around during the year. The whole value of camping to my family is getting away from the craziness of the every day life and just spending time together.
Section II:New ideas for campingThe whole idea of this issue is to help motivate everyone to try different ideas and think outside the box, life gets boring real fast when every year a repeat of the last is. One very productive idea I have for you is to keep a travel journal, when we go out of state I simply write done times and distances as we go so I can look back and figure out our next trip. This may seem a little over the top, how ever its is a useful tool when you are crunching numbers and calculating gas, time and overall distance. Now are you ready for a ground breaking idea? Ask your kids what they would like to change about camping. Let’s be honest as adults we some times get stuck in the same old rut and suffer from narrow vision, kids on the other hand are very open to change and new ideas. I recently asked my kids this question and it took those two days to get back to me, their big suggestion was more bikes riding and walks. I must say this came as a shock since we already ride enough to occupy several hours a day when we camp. Your kids may surprise you with some real good suggestions on how to make things more interesting. How many times as a kid when you camped did you have to deal with inferior equipment? Most kids are given low end gear and deal with it, if your kids have trouble sleeping in a tent make sure that’s it not because they are sleeping on a two dollar air mattress bought at the local Target. Spending money on the proper equipment definitely pays you back more in the long run. With this in mind make sure that the gear your kids are using still works for them, as kids grow older their needs will change and reality check may be order once every once and awhile.
Section III: Camping LinksI thought for the third section of this issue I would provide you a list of some of the sites I trade links with, here at family fun camping we check every link first so they are quality and related to camping or family. Kids funFun ideas for the whole family
