Around the campfire

The planning of most vacations usually fall's on Mom's already tired shoulders, so get a cup of coffee and let me clue you in on the easiest way to plan your next family camping trip.

A strong plan is your best tool to hold things together and lock down the details, trust me if write everything down as you go it becomes real tough for the family to argue what they agreed on months ago.

The best tool you have is time, plan early and you will be able to get an advantage on the last minute planners. Trust me the good camp sites are reserved right after your favorite campground reopens for the season.

Section I: Planning the easy way

The most important idea that I can pass along to you is that ”You control all the detail’s

When my wife and I plan a vacation we usually start six months in advance, I know this sounds a little over the top however you will find the early bird gets the best Site! Unless you like to be on the smallest campsite in left filed.

Relax planning is snap when you have a plan so here it is, start by getting a notebook and start by writing down the following topics:

planning to do list:

  • When: exact dates
  • Where: State, region and town
  • How much Money: You need a solid budget

I recommend that you start a note book or journal, this way you can lock down all the details with the whole family. A nice little extra this method is you create a log of your planning which can come in handy next time. The other major detail I recommend is planning at least one nice day trip or fancy meal out as a family.

When you are ready to start researching where to stay I Recommend using Reserve America they make it fast and easy to find the right campground. One worthy mention here is make sure your tent or Rv will fit on the site your interested in, a quick phone call can save a lot of aggravation in the long run.

Section II: Booking the perfect campground

You want to stay at the best campground for the cheapest price right? Of course how ever it isn't always that simple. You will find that some trade off's are always going to happen when you choose a place to pitch your tent for the week.

This is fine as long as you understand some basics of camping, there are certain thing's thing you will want to have in place such as:

  • Multiple bath rooms / Bath houses
  • Access to a phone for Emergencies
  • Secure entrance
  • Access to water or a well

At the very least you are going to want a clean, groomed site with easy access to a bath room and water if you have younger kids. I would recommend you read the description for each type of site they offer and make an informed decision based on the needs of your family.

You will discover that different places will offer sites from

  • rustic(a patch cut out of the woods)
  • Premium (well groomed large site with a fire ring/fireplace and picnic table.
and every where in between.

When your researching a campground look at their Campground map and pay close attention to the key, usually different types of sites will be indicated by a color or symbol.
